Chain Gang pulling the logging wheels, the Running of the Freshmen and other NAU traditions are featured in the True Blue NAU Mural, a project unveiled today in downtown Flagstaff.

The mural is located on North Leroux Street between Route 66 and Aspen Avenue and is the result of efforts by the NAU Foundation, employees, alumni and leaders across the Flagstaff community.

Lisa Campos, vice president for Intercollegiate Athletics, recognized the many contributors to the mural including Mason Gerety, vice president of Advancement and president of the NAU Foundation, and Brian White, vice president of the Collegiate Licensing Company and Lumberjack Athletics Association board member.

Local artist “Mural Joe” Cornelius worked with White and Gerety, along with numerous committees from across the university, to incorporate suggestions and feedback to create a representation of the dynamic institution’s history.

Cornelius chronicled the progress of the project over the summer and interviewed visitors for their input on the mural. His videos are available on YouTube.
