New commission to focus on disability issues

The university is enhancing its commitment to promote a welcoming and inclusive campus for anyone with a disability.

NAU’s Americans with Disabilities Act committee has evolved into the Commission on Disability Access and Design and is now an official advisory group to the Office of the President.

“We intend to increase our collaborations with the university community to create a welcoming, supportive and inclusive university community free from physical and attitudinal barriers to services, programs and activities,” saidĀ Chris Lanterman, chair of the commission and a lecturer in the College of Education.

The commission will meet on the third Thursday of each month and welcomes participants interested in disability issues. The next meeting is from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 18, in the Oak Creek room in the University Union.
