NAUPD grant aimed at promoting traffic safety on campus

The Northern Arizona University Police Department got a boost this week to step up traffic safety around the Flagstaff campus.

Gov. Jan Brewer’s Office of Highway Safety awarded NAUPD a $20,500 grant to purchase necessary equipment to enhance traffic law enforcement.

NAUPD will purchase a programmable digital dual radar and information signage board, which will be targeted at enforcing speed and other highway safety related laws. NAUPD Cpl. Kenneth Hunter said the new equipment will be used for identifying and taking enforcement action on aggressive, speeding and impaired drivers and promoting occupant safety.
