Northern Arizona University will begin offering a bachelor’s degree in health sciences at NAU Yuma beginning in fall 2020. NAU’s B.S. in Health Sciences program is offered online in a 90/30 format where students can transfer up to 90 credits from applicable community college programs into the degree completion program at NAU. Students then complete their bachelor’s degree with 30 credits at NAU. Beginning in fall 2020, NAU Yuma will host an on-site program for this degree which has shown high student demand statewide, growing in program enrollment from approximately 350 students in 2007 when it was established to its current enrollment of more than 1,140 students this year.

Many employers hiring in allied health areas that require licensure/certification are seeking individuals who also have bachelor’s degrees. Part of NAU’s strategic plan is ensuring degree programs help meet industry needs in the state of Arizona and beyond.

“There is a growing demand for health care professionals throughout the State of Arizona,” NAU President Rita Cheng said. “NAU is proud to partner with Arizona Western College in offering a bachelor’s degree pathway in health sciences to prepare the next generation of health care leaders in Yuma.”

NAU Yuma has a rich and valued history in the community, providing education programs for more than 30 years. NAU offers numerous undergraduate programs at its Yuma location, located on the Arizona Western College campus and in partnership with AWC, in addition to several graduate programs, including elementary education, justice studies, nursing and social work. “Continuing to build access to postsecondary education opportunities where Arizonans live and work is critical to expanding Arizona’s economy, and NAU values the partnership with AWC and Yuma in this effort,” Cheng said.

“Arizona Western College is thrilled that Northern Arizona University will begin offering an allied health degree in Yuma,” AWC President Daniel Corr said. “There is a tremendous demand for such a degree locally and NAU has stepped forward to deliver. This is a huge win for higher education in Yuma.”
