NAU ranks among top institutions for minority students earning degrees

Northern Arizona University ranks fourth in the nation for conferring the highest number of master’s degrees to Native American students and first for graduating Native American students with master’s degrees in education.

The rankings are produced by Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine’s annual report which recognizes institutions that confer the largest number of degrees to minority students based on the 2008-09 academic school year.

NAU earned multiple top 10 rankings for minority master’s degree production, including 10th for master’s in education for all minority groups and also for master’s degrees in education awarded to Hispanics. In all, the university received 10 rankings for graduating minority students with master’s degrees.

The report ranks doctoral degrees for this first time this year and NAU ranks 12th, 71st and 89th for graduating Native Americans, Hispanics and Asian Americans, respectively.

The university also excels in awarding undergraduate degrees to minorities in specific disciplines, with seven top 10 rankings, six of which fall under graduating Native American students.
