Let Louie be your guide

Jeanette Baker

Playful illustrations and an educational storyline bring NAU to life in the new Mascot book Hello, Louie!, by Jeanette Baker, associate vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

Baker first heard of Mascot books last spring and thought it was a perfect fit for NAU and Louie the Lumberjack. Mascot books are created for colleges and universities and feature the school’s mascot and its campus. She created the storyline with the inspiration “to re-energize and contemporarize Louie and share his values of the university with generations to come.”

In Hello, Louie!, Louie leads three future Lumberjacks in a fun-filled tour of the NAU campus, exploring iconic buildings like Old Main, the University Union and the Skydome. He explains the significance of landmarks on campus, such as the Navajo Code Talker bust, the logging wheels and he explains what a “green” building is. Finally, after an action-packed day that culminates in a football game, Louie heads home and reflects on “what a special place Northern Arizona University was and how lucky he was to be the university’s mascot.”

Hello, Louie! is available at the NAU Bookstore. The NAU Alumni Association is also offering a free copy to any alumni with children or grandchildren under the age of 5. Visit the alumni web site to sign up.
