Knoles Drive permanently closes to thru traffic Aug. 28 following Welcome Weekend.
The closure will affect southbound traffic at McMullen Circle and northbound traffic at Tormey Avenue. Vehicles will be redirected.
Planters will be placed across Knoles from the south end of the Blome building sidewalk to the corner of McMullen Circle, across from the Gammage building.
Northbound Knoles traffic will be routed west on Tormey Avenue behind Geology and Gammage and back on to Knoles or east on Tormey behind Old Main. Southbound Knoles traffic will be routed along McMullen Circle between the North Union and North Morton Hall to Dupont Drive.
A gate will be installed near Blome to allow buses and emergency vehicles to travel along Knoles from north to south campus.
The change is being made now to lessen traffic mingling with construction vehicles near the hotel-conference center site. It is the first step in reducing vehicle traffic throughout the campus, which is part of the university’s master plan.
