ITS will be replacing the “Jan” machine Sunday evening, Dec. 20. Jan no longer hosts e-mail for faculty and staff, serving primarily as a web server and Unix resource for a limited number of faculty and staff.
With Jan’s reduced role, the university can save money by replacing the server with a virtualized Linux server. Months of planning have gone into this change, but the change itself should be transparent for faculty and staff still using Jan.
