Innovative software offers professional development

The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management has developed software that is suited for training and certification processes required for a variety of professionals.

HRM staff can work with NAU departments to convert existing content using this web-based software, which differs significantly from Web-CT.

HRM originally designed the software to train and certify hospitality professionals in customer service, including employees of the Phoenix Civic Plaza. Now, the HRM staff has the ability to customize this new training software for clients in any content area.

“Any unit that has a need to provide hassle-free training, testing, and/or certification can benefit from our platform,” said Timothy Foster, senior systems analyst. “Another great capability is that it also interfaces with NAU’s e-Business software to handle online billing.”

A customized version of the software is being used to provide food handlers’ certification for the Coconino County Health Department. HRM has already assisted NAU’s Dental Hygiene department by converting 10 certification courses for practicing professional hygienists.

The software allows rapid conversion to multiple languages. HRM already has converted a number of courses to Spanish, some of which offer toggling between Spanish and English.

An innovative feature of this software is the suite of built-in administrative and reporting tools. In-depth statistical analysis of test scores can be performed at any time to fine-tune assessments, and customizable management reports can be generated to track users’ progress, demographics and evaluation results.

For existing content, courses can be rapidly developed at a reasonable fee. Call Tim Foster at (928) 523-8432, Timothy.Foster@nau.edu, or Grace Marks at (928) 523-4289, Grace.Marks@nau.edu, for information or to arrange a demonstration.
