  • Senior tennis player Tim Handel finished his NAU career ranked No. 73 final Oracle/ITA Division I Men’s Rankings released Wednesday. Handel was the lone player from the Big Sky Conference in the last national rankings of the season and he was the first Big Sky player in more than a decade to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, played last week in Florida.
  • Junior tennis player Chiara Tomasetti finished at No. 110 on the Oracle/ITA Division I rankings released this week, and senior Hanneke Lodewijks and sophomore Ellie Millard finished 58th on the doubles ranking list, the only Big Sky athletes in either ranking. Tomasetti also was selected as the ITA Mountain Regional Player to Watch in the Division I Regional Awards.
  • Senior Skylar Weber received a $1,000 study abroad grant from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society. Weber, who is studying biomedical science and German, will use the grant to study at Universität Konstanz in Konstanz, Germany. She was one of 75 selected based on academic achievement, community service and career goals.
  • Junior runner Geordie Beamish was named a member of the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District team for men’s track & field and cross country. Beamish, a civil engineering major, was selected for his combined athletic and academic performance, with a 3.73 GPA while being a member of the three-time national champion cross country team and becoming the 2019 NCAA Division I national champion in the indoor men’s mile in February, running a 4:07.69 race. He also qualified for the men’s 5K race in the Outdoor Track & Field Championship in June.
