  • Dennis C. Tanner, health sciences professor, recently was featured in Nursing Assistant newsletter published by Cengage Learning. In the interview, Tanner explains swallowing disorders and the important role nursing assistants have in preventing aspiration pneumonia and choking deaths in patients with compromised swallowing disabilities. Read the article here.

Tanner and fellow health sciences professor William R. Culbertson recently formed a partnership with Ahmand R. Khatoonabadi, a doctoral candidate in speech and language pathology at Tehran University of Medical Services. The joint program will translate this quick assessment guide into Farsi and provide resources and instruction on the psychology of aphasia. Patients with aphasia experience unique challenges in coping with neurogenic communication disorder, and access to books and articles on the subject is scarcely available in Iran.
