  • Yeon-Su Kim, associate professor in the School of Forestry, gave several invited presentations recently in Thailand and Indonesia. These included a presentation at the fourth International Conference on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development of the Greater Mekong Sub-region, Khon Kaen, Thailand, and seminars at Khon Kaen University, the Centre for International Forestry Research in Bogor, Indonesia, and the University of Mataram on Lombok Island, Indonesia.
  • Jim Wilce, professor of anthropology, recently was in Bonn, Germany, as part of a 12-member international panel reviewing three proposals for “Excellence Initiative” funding. The Excellence Initiative is the German Research Council’s program to boost already-elite German research programs to world-class status. The proposals, coming from three German research centers, requested a total of 35 million euros over a five-year period.
  • Jason Hess, associate professor of art, published the article “Elusive Surfaces” in the current issue of The Log Book, an international publication on wood firing and wood-fired ceramics. Hess’s article discusses the wood-fired soda glaze and includes five images of his work. His work also is featured on the magazine cover available here.
  • Alfonso Dominguez, an environmental sciences major at NAU-Yuma, has been selected by the Polaris Project for a month-long field expedition to the Siberian Arctic.
