  • David Schlosberg, professor of politics and international affairs, co-authored an article, “Deliberation in E-Rulemaking? The Problem of Mass Participation” with Stephen Zavestoski, associate professor and chair of Sociology and Environmental Studies at the University of San Francisco, and Stuart Shulman, assistant professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The article is published in the book, Online Deliberation: Design, Research, and Practice, and examines the idea that online participation in government decision making improves public deliberation and the information available to agencies.
  • Erin Grisham, executive director of Educational Support Services, and her family were named the Flagstaff YMCA family of the year.
  • Anne Buzzard, development officer for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, along with her friend and teammate, Matt Ryan, took first place in the 96+ combined age category, at the Muddy Buddy Ride & Run on Dec. 13 in Phoenix. It was a family affair, with two other Buzzard-and-Ryan teams winning first place in their respective categories: Brian Buzzard and Sean Ryan (+400 lb. combined weight category); Rachel Buzzard and Rebekah Ryan (45-and-younger combined age category). Matt’s wife, Theresa Stacy-Ryan, graphic designer for The W.A. Franke College of Business, shot some fun footage of the teams’ final stretch of the race—a crawl through the infamous Mud Pit. (Watch for Anne and Matt to emerge from the sludge to cross the finish line together at about 0:57).
