  • Ken Lorek, the Ralph M. Bilby Professor of Business Administration, has had an article, “Time-Series Properties and Predictive Ability of Quarterly Cash Flows,” accepted for publication in a forthcoming issue of the journal, Advances in Accounting.
  • The Qwest Foundation recently awarded $12,242 to NAU on behalf of Arizona GEAR UP, or Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. GEAR UP, a division of the College of Education, partners with 17 schools across the state to increase the number of students in economically disadvantaged communities who are prepared to succeed in postsecondary education. The funds will enable GEAR UP partner Crane Middle School in Yuma to upgrade its broadcasting media studio, as well as purchase equipment to enhance teacher presentation of AIMS preparation materials to students. Crane Middle School has a student enrollment of 844 students in grades seven and eight, 400 of whom are GEAR UP 8th graders.
  • J. Judson Wynne, biology doctoral student and cave research scientist of the Merriam-Powell Center of Environmental Research, will participate in NASA Spaceward Bound! Mojave Expedition in southern California, April 6-11. Wynne will be working with and training high school science teachers as part of a broader effort to develop techniques for detecting caves on Earth and Mars using thermal imaging.
  • Mary I. Dereshiwsky, associate professor of educational leadership, had an article titled, “Preparing for Spring Break in Your Online Courses,” published in the March 2008 issue of E-LERN.
