Football opens in the Skydome this weekend with a matchup against South Dakota, a family friendly Fanfest and a freshman tradition carried on by the class of 2017.
NAU’s newest class of students will flood the field to lead the football team into the Skydome during in the Running of the Freshmen five minutes prior to kickoff Saturday. It’s a favorite tradition of football head coach Jerome Souers, who is looking for faculty, staff, students and the community to fill every seat for the game.
“As your hometown team, we need your support,” said Souers in his blog post last week. “Every person plays a part in supporting our program and our players. From the Lumberyard to the end zones to the bleachers, help fill the Dome, make some noise and give us that home field advantage.”
Fanfest returns for its second year, featuring Where’s the Food Truck, a climbing wall, face painting, refreshments and more for the whole family. Fanfest is free and begins four hours prior to kickoff in parking lot 66. Free parking is available in lot 62 with complimentary shuttle service to the Skydome beginning four hours prior to kickoff and return service to the lot until 30 minutes after each home game ends.
