A new partnership between NAU’s Honors College and the Garcia Family Foundation will allow underserved students in need to earn the education they deserve.

Thanks to the Garcia Family Foundation’s dedication to inspiring learning and providing access for students, NAU Honors College students can participate in the Garcia Family Honors Scholars Program. The program provides significant need-based scholarship funding renewable for up to four years. Scholars will have a highly personalized academic experience, including specialized academic and career resources, and have an opportunity to participate in one of the Honors College’s signature domestic or international service programs that give back to the community and build global leadership skills.

The scholarship program signals the shared commitment of NAU and The Garcia Family Foundation to increase access for first-generation and other traditionally underserved students in Arizona.

“The Garcia Family Honors Scholars Program is designed to ease the financial burden of a truly high-quality undergraduate education for some of the most deserving Arizona students, and to encourage more students from traditionally underrepresented groups to see themselves in Honors,” said Honors College Dean Kevin Gustafson. “This highly personalized program will help remove barriers for the students, allowing them to experience the high-impact educational culture that defines NAU.”

“The Garcia Family Foundation has a strong interest in high-performing, underserved students who have faced and overcome obstacles to do so,” said Jon Ehlinger, president of the Garcia Family Foundation. “We believe these students will make significant and positive changes in their communities, and we are pleased to work with the NAU Honors College in laying the foundation for these future difference makers.”

The Garcia Family Honors Scholars Program nearly doubles the amount of need-based scholarship assistance currently available to NAU Honors students, giving even more students the opportunity to access a bold and boundless future.
