FUSD graduation, construction on Butler to cause traffic congestion

The Flagstaff Unified School District will hold two graduation ceremonies in the Skydome on Friday, May 29, so campus commuters should expect heavy traffic on south campus.

Between 7,000 and 8,000 people are expected to attend ceremonies from 9 a.m. to noon and from 3 to 6 p.m. Traffic is expected to increase beginning at about 7:30 a.m. when FUSD buses begin shuttling families from parking lot 62 on south campus. Click here for a detailed map of the affected areas.

Commuters also are encouraged to allow extra time if using Butler Avenue along the northern stretch of campus for the next few days as the city performs chip seal improvements that will cause extended traffic delays. Detours and traffic controllers will direct traffic through the work zones beginning at Clay Avenue and Butler Avenue. Parking restrictions also will be enforced. Following the work on Butler Avenue, chip seal will extend into downtown Flagstaff and throughout the city.
