Mason Gerety, dean of The W.A. Franke College of Business, will be meeting with individuals and departments on campus this week as he interviews for the position of vice president for University Advancement.
A campuswide forum will give employees and students an opportunity to meet with Gerety from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 2, in the Fremont Room of the du Bois Center.
Gerety came to NAU in 1993 as assistant professor of finance. In 1995 he was promoted to associate professor. He assumed the position of director of the MBA program in 1997 and was appointed associate dean of the College of Business in 1999. He was promoted to professor of finance in 2001 and was appointed interim dean of the college that same year. He has led the advancement team in the college for seven years, prior to his appointment as dean in 2002.
Gerety received his B.A. in economics from the University of New Mexico and M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Washington. Prior to coming to the university, he served as assistant and associate professor of economics as Clemson University, senior research economist at the Securities and Exchange Commission, and visiting assistant professor of finance at the University of Maryland.
His fund-raising experience includes major gifts from corporations, foundations and individuals, the largest being the $25 million gift from William A. Franke for the College of Business. Gerety sees the role of vice president for advancement as “one that garners resources, both volunteer and financial, to facilitate student learning.”
