Counseling Center temporarily relocating

The NAU Counseling Center is making way for the construction of the new Native American Cultural Center by temporarily moving to a new location, 1300 S. Milton Road in the Meadows Plaza. It is expected to be in full operation there by Aug. 16.

Chris Gunn, director of the Counseling Center, said the center will be open for business as usual at the new location, providing the same counseling services for students as before, including 24-hour, seven-days-a-week emergency services, no-cost first appointments and subsequent scheduled appointments at $15 each.

“The Counseling Center will continue to provide consultation to staff and faculty who have concerns about a student’s mental health,” he said.

Directions to the center are the only change. Students should enter the two-story building north of Carl’s Jr. on the first floor. Use the stairs or elevator to reach the second floor, turn right, and proceed to the check-in area in room 224.

Free public parking is available in the plaza or on Riordan Ranch Road, and a bike rack will be placed near the entrance.

The Counseling Center will remain in the Meadows Plaza until its final move into the Heath and Learning Center, expected to be completed by fall 2011.

“Some students have already expressed that the location might have easier access for them and add to the feeling that services are private and confidential,” Gunn said.
