Civic Service Institute at NAU awarded grant to launch statewide AmeriCorps program

Returning AmeriCorps Members

The Civic Service Institute at Northern Arizona University has been awarded a $1.2 million grant through the Corporation for National and Community Service to serve 5,000 high school students throughout Arizona.

CSI@NAU was the only agency in Arizona to receive funding from this competitive national grant opportunity. The institute will partner with college and career readiness organizations such as the Arizona College Access Network, the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education and the Metropolitan Education Commission. CSI@NAU is currently seeking additional partners from the nonprofit and education sector for this project.

Through this project, CSI@NAU will place 65 AmeriCorps members at partner sites. The members will seek to improve the on-time high school graduation rate and postsecondary enrollment rate in low-income communities and Title 1 schools in Arizona whose on-time high school graduation rates are lower than the national average.

Information sessions about the project are being held throughout July. The two remaining sessions are as follows:

  • July 21, 3–4 p.m., at United Way of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff
  • July 25, 3–4 p.m., ONLINE at http://bit.ly/INFO7-25
