NAU’s Civic Service Institute is now Center for Service and Volunteerism

The Civic Service Institute at Northern Arizona University announced it is changing its name to the Center for Service and Volunteerism. The change more comprehensively highlights the work the center does throughout the state.

“Our new name, the Center for Service and Volunteerism (CSV), better reflects the work we do to engage volunteers to address critical community needs throughout Arizona,” said director Erin Kruse. “Our programs serve communities from Yuma to Tuba City, Lake Havasu to Show Low, and many more.”

The Center for Service and Volunteerism’s mission is to be the state leader in the field of service and volunteerism. The CSV supports a vibrant and diverse network of individuals and partner agencies who are making an exceptional impact across Arizona. CSV manages seven National Service programs through AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Seniors and VISTA, including initiatives focused on education, food security, veterans and military families, aging in place, pain management alternatives, environmental stewardship, capacity building and more.

Since 1985, CSV connected Arizonans with service opportunities. In addition to bringing together volunteers and agencies which benefit from their engagement, the CSV hosts an annual GEMS Volunteer Recognition Event in Flagstaff, is a certified service enterprise through the Points of Light Foundation and provides in-depth training and coaching to nonprofits to enhance their volunteer management capacity.

“It’s been a pleasure to be a part of the Civic Service Institute, serving alongside the NAU community, volunteers and organizations across Arizona. I’m excited for the future of the Center for Service and Volunteerism,” said Mohave County program coordinator Heather Brassil.  “The mission of the CSV can grow exponentially throughout Arizona.”

In 2020, 709 volunteers volunteered at 299 agencies statewide, providing support and assistance to 41,291 individuals and clocking 264,948 hours through the Center for Service and Volunteerism. For more information regarding the Center for Service and Volunteerism, or to apply to be a volunteer, visit https://in.nau.edu/civic-service-institute/ or call 1-866-856-3017.
