NAU students and staff team up to put together 25,000 care kits for students and employees

As faculty and staff continue preparations for a healthy return to campus for the fall 2020 semester, NAU student employees and staff from student affairs and Enrollment Management joined forces to create care kits for the Lumberjack community returning to campus.

NAU has a comprehensive plan for the return to campus that includes education and prevention strategies, including asking students, faculty and staff to monitor their health daily. To support these efforts, these care kits include two NAU face masks, a thermometer, a bottle of hand sanitizer, educational information about COVID-19 and a note welcoming students back to campus.

Robert Alberts, a coordinator in Residence Life, said the volunteers followed physical distancing guidelines and even tested out some of the technology that will be used in the fall, specifically the temperature scanning kiosks.

“Not only is the safety of our students who will be joining us in the fall a huge priority, but also the safety of the students, faculty and staff who volunteered their time to put together these kits.”

Calling it a huge success, Alberts shared that over 25,000 kits were made in less than 24 hours.

As of now, the plan is to provide the care kits to incoming freshman and new transfer students in conjunction with their Jacks Card upon move-in to campus. For students that are returning to campus and living in a residence hall, kits will be distributed in their building and students who live off campus, will receive their kit at distribution points on north and south campus.
