As campus prepares its construction site for the new Health and Learning Center, drivers on campus need to prepare for temporary traffic changes starting Oct. 26 for about six weeks.
San Francisco Street will be closed to traffic between Franklin Avenue and McCreary Street to accommodate construction vehicles and roadway utility crossings near the building site (Recreation Center and Lumberjack Stadium).
“We are redirecting traffic in an effort to keep drivers safe from the constant move of construction workers and equipment,” said Jane Kuhn, interim chief facilities officer.
To access the Skydome and NAU Bookstore from north of campus, take Lone Tree Road south to Pine Knoll Drive and head north on San Francisco Street.
Traffic also will be able to enter campus southbound from Dupont Ave to Knoles Drive.
Traffic will be able to exit campus from San Francisco Street to McCreary Drive to Beaver Street (excluding trucks), and through Pine Knoll Drive to Lone Tree Road, University Drive, Riordan Road and McConnell Drive.
NAU Transit vans and buses traveling on San Francisco Street will loop around Mountain View parking lot. View revised bus and van route maps.
To assist drivers, numerous traffic signs will be placed throughout campus and on Butler Ave.
The NAU Police Department is working with the city of Flagstaff to ensure access for emergency vehicles.
