College of Arts and Letters hosts first ever culture showcase

CAL 2025 Arts and Culture Showcase. March 27 to April 27. Performances, lectures, entertainment and more.

World-class films, concerts, lectures and art, all in your backyard! The NAU College of Arts and Letters’ Art and Culture Showcase promises to take the NAU and Flagstaff communities on a cultural and artistic journey starting March 27.

Alexandra Carpino, associate dean at the College of Arts and Letters, said this is the first showcase of its kind. In the past, CAL events were featured as part of an undergraduate expo, but this year the college decided to have a month-long showcase that kicks off with the interactive event CAL-in-ACTION 2025 and closes with the Spring Festival of Choirs on April 27.

“The purpose of the showcase is to celebrate the college’s commitment to public-facing programs that encourage discussion, promote appreciation of beauty and the arts and foster relationships at NAU and beyond,” Carpino said. “While we host lectures, concerts, plays, film screenings, workshops and other cultural opportunities all year round, the showcase allows us to not only highlight some of our most exciting and distinctive offerings but also remind the community why we have the reputation for being the cultural center of NAU.”

The kickoff event, CAL-in-ACTION 2025, will feature interactive table displays and engaging presentations to highlight the work and creativity of students and faculty. Other events happening throughout the showcase month include exhibitions, lectures by renowned authors, films, an international dance party and a concert with Grammy winner and NAU alumnus Dom Flemons, known for his sounds of country, blues, folk, bluegrass and Americana. Flemons’ concert takes place Wednesday, April 2 at Kitt Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.

“The showcase includes everything from lectures, performances and exhibitions by world-class musicians and artists to visiting scholars and talented students,” Carpino said. “Whatever you pick, we know that you will be entertained, engaged and enlightened as you learn something new about our community and the world.”
