Best burritos in Flagstaff (according to us)

Hearty Chorizo Breakfast Burrito with Eggs, Cheese, and Hashbrowns

Someone once said, “A burrito is happiness wrapped in a tortilla,” and the NAU Communications team couldn’t agree more. For National Burrito Day on April 3, the team put together a list of their favorite burritos in Flagstaff. So, the next time you’re out and about, hungry and looking to support local, consider grabbing a healthy (OK, maybe not-so-healthy) dose of happiness.

Campus Coffee Bean – Garden Burrito

Recommended by Heidi Toth

Egg, potato, spinach and cream cheese

This burrito is so filling that even us omnivores won’t miss the meat! The spinach and cream cheese add that bright bite you want in the morning to be ready for a day of work or for a leisurely brunch.

Madrez Cafe – Spicy Breakfast Burrito

Recommended by Shonri Begay

Eggs, potatoes, Serano chiles and crispy bacon

This burrito is the right balance of fluffy and crispy, comforting and spicy! Madrez Cafe uses local ingredients and makes their salsas and tortillas from scratch. If you’re not in the mood for burritos, they also make the best waffles in town!

El Tapatio – Burrito De Asada

Recommended by Ava Hiniker

Large flour tortilla filled with carne asada. Smothered in red salsa. Served with guacamole and pico de gallo.

If there was only one way to my heart, it would certainly be through my stomach—specifically through the means of a burrito drowning in delectable, decadent sauces. This burrito scratches that itch. Those looking for a taste of heaven complete with tender steak and served with rice and beans will definitely find it at El Tapatio.

Tacos Los Altos – Breakfast Burrito

Recommended by Jill Kimball

Potatoes, eggs and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla with your protein of choice (chorizo, bacon, ham, sausage or more potato) and as much salsa as you want.

Flagstaffians may never settle their feud over which Tacos Los Altos location is superior (I’m a Westside gal myself). But the truth is, regardless of which TLA you choose, you can’t go wrong with either of their delicious, portable and AM-friendly breakfast burritos. They’re super affordable and perfect to grab as you head out of town for your next adventure!

Brandy’s – Vegan Breakfast Burrito

Recommended by Carly Banks

Vegan eggs and sausage with tomato, green chili and onion, served with homemade salsa and choice of side.

As a vegan, I don’t often get to indulge in “eggs and sausage,” so this burrito is such a treat. It’s so delicious, in fact, that it can be appreciated by vegans and non-vegans alike. Highly recommend ordering it with crispy hashbrowns!

Gloria’s Bakery – Breakfast Burrito a la Mexicana

Recommended by Mariana Laas

Homemade flour tortilla filled with eggs scrambled with pico de gallo, rice and beans.

This is a small family-owned restaurant that offers authentic Mexican food. The eggs are scrambled with tomatoes, onion and jalapeno peppers making them very moist and fluffy. Instead of potatoes, this breakfast burrito is filled with Mexican rice and fried beans. The rice is soft and flavorful, giving a very different taste from any traditional breakfast burrito you might have had. Once wrapped, it’s grilled so that it holds the juices in and stops the tortilla from getting too soggy. Pair it with a fresh fruit ‘liquado’ and a ‘concha’ to complete your meal.
