Be bright about your lights

Take care of your Light

Lighting accounts for about 44 percent of the electricity use in an office building. Here’s how you can reduce that energy impact:

  • Turn off the lights any time you will be out of your office for more than 15 minutes.
  • Use efficient light bulbs in your office. Free compact fluorescent lights, or CFLs, are available from Campus Supply for use in your office by calling (928) 523-4227 and placing a work order. These bulbs use 75 percent less energy than their incandescent counterparts.
  • Use natural light as much as possible by opening window shades and utilizing desk lamps instead of overhead lights.

Turning out the lights seems simple enough, but the truth is it’s not a habit for most people on campus. Make the change and help NAU save more than just dollars.
