Apple Crisp

Flagstaff saw an explosion of apples this season! Wondering what to do with them all? With colder days ahead, this cozy Autumn Apple Crisp is perfect as a seasonal breakfast treat or a warm dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 cups oats

Optional:

  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°F. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, toss apples with lemon juice, sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. In a saucepan, melt butter with honey. Mix with flour, oats, almonds, and coconut. Spread the topping over the apples. Bake for 50 minutes, until apples are soft and topping is golden and bubbly. Serve warm!
