Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona has told NAU officials that it is informing its members of a computer breach at a company called Anthem, a Blue Cross provider in many states outside of Arizona.
NAU employees may receive the notice if they had coverage previously through one of the Anthem plans or an affiliate company, or if they received care in the Anthem service area.
On what could be a separate issue, some NAU employees who have filed their income taxes have learned that they have been victims of identity theft and have had fraudulent returns filed. The identity theft is not related to either NAU or its vendors, including the BCBSAZ systems.
Both BCBSAZ and Anthem websites contain information related to this incident and Anthem has established a dedicated toll-free number, (877) 263-7995, for questions. The company also has options for credit monitoring.
Employees are encouraged to file taxes early. The IRS has information about identity fraud on its website.
