The Arizona Legislative Internship Program is open to both graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in a career in politics or policy or want to learn more about how government works. This internship runs from January to May and offers unparalleled experience in the Arizona Senate or House of Representatives.
What is the Arizona Legislative Internship Program?
The Arizona Legislative Internship Program (ALIP) is offered during the spring semester. Interns are placed in various positions at the Arizona State Senate or House of Representatives. Interns may also be selected to work in the Governor’s Office or with the state Supreme Court. Interns receive a stipend of $6,000, a tuition/fee waiver and earn 12 hours of undergraduate upper division credit or 9 hours of graduate credit upon successful completion of the internship. Students from outside Maricopa County are eligible to apply for reimbursement of qualified relocation expenses up to $1,000, with receipts.
What resources are available to help?
NAU’s Career Development is here to provide both extensive support with your application as well as financial and relocation guidance. Students who are accepted to an ALIP internship work in the Governor’s Office, State Supreme Court, State Legislature or Congress at the Capitol building in Phoenix and are mentored and evaluated by a legislative staff member.
