  • Robert Mathiasen, a forestry professor, recently published an invited review paper in the journal Plant Disease, titled “Mistletoes: Pathology, Systematics, Ecology and Management.” Mathiasen is internationally recognized for his research on mistletoes, which can be major pests of trees in many parts of the world but are also important components of forest ecosystems. He served as the lead author on this publication, which was co-authored by colleagues from Southern Illinois University, Oregon State University and Charles Sturt University in Australia.
  • Dean Pielstick, associate clinical professor of leadership and business program coordinator for NAU-Tucson, won a 2008 Outstanding Reviewer Award from the organizational behavior division of the Academy of Management. Pielstick was identified as a reviewer who provided “exceptionally high quality feedback.”
  • NAU’s Institute for Human Development received an Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing 30th Anniversary Partnership Award for its dedication to the deaf and hard of hearing communities. Through the Arizona Technology Access Program, the institute helps provide a statewide network of demonstration centers for the Arizona Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program. Mandated by the Arizona Legislature, the program offers free telecommunications devices to qualified Arizona residents who are hard of hearing, deaf, late deafened, deaf/blind or speech impaired. Telecommunications equipment includes amplified telephones, voice carry-over telephones, TTYs, telebraillers, speech generation devices and telephone alerting devices.
  • The Northern Arizona University athletics department has been recognized for a Diversity in Athletics Award in the category of Value and Attitudinal Diversity, based on a survey conducted independently by the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University and supported by the NCAA.The award recognizes those schools that achieved the highest total combined scores in the areas of diversity strategy, gender diversity of departmental employees, racial diversity of departmental employees, value and attitudinal diversity of departmental employees, graduation of African American female and male student-athletes and gender equity complianc
