Word is out: A team from KNAU came in second at the recent 2008 Mountain Spelling Bee fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Coconino County.
After getting more than 60 words correct, team members Duart Martin, Charles Smith, and Matt DeLong missed spelling “melittologist,” an entomologist who specializes in the study of bees.
A team from the Guidance Center defended its 2007 title by spelling it correctly. It also had to spell “pucellas,” meaning a tong-like tool used for shaping molten glass.
Eleven teams competed. A team from the Museum of Northern Arizona came in third
