- David Patton, retired dean of the College of Ecosystem Science and Management and the School of Forestry, published a textbook titled Forest Wildlife Ecology and Habitat Management. A portion of book sales will be donated to the Wildlife Habitat Relationships Scholarship Fund he established for students of NAU’s School of Forestry.
- Matthew Hurteau, visiting assistant professor and graduate coordinator for the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability, coauthored “Short- and Long-term Effects of Fire on Carbon in US Dry Temperate Forest Systems,” a study that was published in this month’s issue of Bioscience, the journal of the American Institute of Biological Sciences.
- Mikhael Star, project lead for ePlanning, and Lanita Collette, assistant director of Administrative Computing, discussed NAU’s use of the Grade Performance Status system in a recent issue of Educause Quarterly magazine. The article, titled “GPS: Shaping Student Success One Conversation at a Time,” detailed the development, university-wide expansion and initial results of the deployment of NAU’s academic early alert system.
- Harvey Charles, vice provost for International Education, Karen Pugliesi, vice provost for Academic Affairs, and Liz Grobsmith, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, conducted a session at the 97th annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities in San Francisco, held Jan. 26-29. Their session was titled, “Transforming Global Learning into a Universal Requirement: Embedding Global Learning in General Education, Major Programs and Across the Disciplines.” The conference theme was “Global Positioning: Essential Learning, Student Success and the Currency of U.S. Degrees,” and with nearly 2,000 participants, it was the largest conference in the association’s history.
