The memorabilia and collections in your office could be art.
The NAU Art Museum is seeking items and collections from across campus for display in “Wunderkammer: The University as Cabinet of Curiosities,” an NAU Art Museum special exhibition April 9 through May 15.
“Now is the time for our unsung NAU treasures to have their day,” said Michael Vincent, dean for the College of Arts and Letters. “We welcome any memorabilia or collections departments have treasured, maintained, displayed or even stored away.”
So far, the museum has its sights on a collection of vintage typewriters, sports memorabilia and even a piece of the Berlin Wall to include in the display.
Vincent encourages departments to add their collections to the exhibit. “Collections need to come from NAU departments that have maintained them, we’re not looking for personal items, and they don’t have to be NAU items,” he said. “Everyone is a potential curator of this exhibition. We need your help in locating collections and in encouraging active collaboration on this project.”
Wunderkammer, meaning room of wonder, is the precursor of the modern museum. The idea began in the 16th century when Europeans began collecting art or bric-a-brac in special rooms.
