Whether you are just beginning to brew your own beer, work in the brewing or restaurant industry or just have an interest in the age old beverage, the Intro to Brewing Science class is for you.
NAU’s College of the Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences partnered with the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management to create an online non-credit course that allows homebrewers to increase their knowledge about brewing and helps those interested in taking steps toward a brewing career or beer-focused hospitality to further their experience in the industry.
Through this live online course, students will discover the fundamental science behind beer production, fermentation and brewing microbiology. In combination with online lectures, group discussion and interactive tastings, students will be able to characterize common flavor profiles in beer through beverage sensory best practices.
Emily Cope, assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, David John, instructional laboratory manager in the Department of Biological Sciences, Andrew Koppisch, associate professor of chemistry, along with professional brewing industry experts from High Altitude Homebrew Supply and Mother Road Brewing will instruct this 4-week course.
The Intro to Brewing Science course has limited availability, and requires students to be over the age of 21 upon registration. The course enrollment fee is $199, and interested students can enroll on the Continuing Education website.
