As NAU prepares to welcome back the Lumberjacks, including the class of 2023, here are a few things to know that will make navigating campus easier for faculty, staff, students and their parents during move-in week.
Local/campus traffic
Northern Arizona University students living on campus are scheduled to move in 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, to Friday, Aug. 23, with most of the activity scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
During this time, a modified traffic plan will go into effect to accommodate the increase and unloading of vehicles. NAU employees should be aware of the following road closures: Beaver Street Transit Way (bus spine) southbound from McCreary Drive and University Drive will be closed to non-move-in traffic to facilitate residents moving into central campus halls. NAIPTA bus routes have been rerouted to accommodate these closures.
There will not be unloading on Knoles Drive between University Avenue and Riordan Avenue. All unloading must be done in the Knoles Parking Garage.
McConnell Drive and Pine Knoll Drive will be open for east-west travel.
Please allow extra time when commuting to and from campus these days. For real-time traffic and logistical updates, follow NAU on Twitter using #NAUmovein.
Directions and a map sent to parents to help them navigate campus can be found online.
Construction around campus
The Arizona Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration are doing work on the freeway bridges on I-17 and I-40 near campus. All bridges and on- and off-ramps should be open during move-in. McConnell Drive, on the south end of campus, will be open during the day, but ADOT will close it under the I-17 bridge from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Aug. 19-23. Travelers are encouraged to drive carefully and pay attention to construction crews’ instructions while traveling through the area.
Follow ADOT on Twitter @ArizonaDOT for real-time updates.
