With the political campaign season underway, members of the campus community are encouraged to review NAU’s policies for political activities and support of candidates.
As a university faculty or staff member, you can lawfully campaign for or against candidates and initiatives on your own time and without using state resources, including NAU email; you must act individually and not suggest you represent the position of NAU.
University lobbying activities are limited to individuals appointed by the president and registered with the state.
Employees who plan to campaign for public office or are elected to public office must request personal leave if campaign activities or the public service role interferes with performing assigned NAU duties and responsibilities.
The university’s guidelines can be viewed online and are determined by the Arizona Revised Statutes.
