Last year, more than 400 Northern Arizona University employees came to Employee Development Day to learn how to become better managers, better communicators, better employees and better at taking care of themselves, their futures and their finances, thanks to dozens of their peers who volunteered to teach at this annual event.
This year, before Human Resources invites faculty and staff to come develop themselves, they’re looking for those employees who want to teach what they know. Before you assume you don’t know enough, think again.
“The theme for our Employee Development Day is ‘Pathway to Excellence: Develop U’ and is put on by our employees for our employees,” said Cassie Petit, learning and development manager for NAU. “Sharing your knowledge and experience and giving of your time and talents to others is what makes this day a success.”
The event is intended to remind employees that being lifelong learners is essential in responding to the many changes that impact employees at work and outside of work. Workshops will center on encouraging growth, development and inspiration on personal and work-related levels. The deadline to submit proposals is 5 p.m. March 27, and Petit encouraged all employees to participate.
Past presentation topics have included:
- The Art of Networking
- Reaching the Summit Together: Student Supervision
- Wide World of Social Media
- Can U Pivot? How to excel in Excel

Employee Development Day is scheduled for May 24 in the W.A. Franke College of Business and Rolle Activity Center, offering duplicate 60-minute sessions in the morning and afternoon to reach more employees. Submit your proposal online.
