The Lumberjack community will come together to honor the life and civil rights work of Martin Luther King Jr. during Northern Arizona University’s annual MLK Day Celebration Program on Monday, Jan. 16.
A march will begin at 1 p.m. at the University Union and end at the du Bois Center Ballroom on south campus. A program showcasing student talents and several speakers, including President Rita Cheng, will take place at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to join students and staff to celebrate this occasion.
The Black Student Union, Office of the President, Student Life, Residence Life, Athletics, W.A. Franke College of Business and Inclusion and Multicultural Services are presenting this annual event.
In the community, student-athletes will participate in various service projects, including preparing and serving food and cleaning up trails throughout Flagstaff. NAU’s Civic Service Institute will partner with United Blood Services to host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, 1702 N Fourth St.
The university will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. NAU permits are not required for parking on campus that day. Parking restrictions for reserved stalls and meters remain in effect.
