The spirit of the Lumberjacks

Coach Souers 100th win log

By Jerome Souers, Head Football Coach @CoachSouers

Coach Souers The fall semester is underway and it is with great enthusiasm I invite you to join what promises to be a phenomenal year at Northern Arizona University.

Under the leadership of Lisa Campos, vice president of Intercollegiate Athletics, NAU comes off another great year, achieving in the classroom, in competition and beyond. We continue to raise the bar for our student-athletes and what it means to be “NAU Strong.”

This year we celebrate 100 years of Lumberjack football, a benchmark reflected in a century of tradition and strength. Since our first team back in 1915, more than 2,100 letter winners have come through our program and helped “lead the blue and gold to fame” just like our fight song says.

On Saturday, we look to continue the tradition as we kick off our season at home with the best fans around. Come out early and join the tailgate. You can catch live football, connect with old and new friends and cheer on our team as they make the Lumberjack walk to the Skydome. After the tailgate, claim your seat to view the Running of the Freshmen, a fun tradition that welcomes the newest Lumberjack class as they take the field just before the football team.

Once the game starts, there’s never a dull moment. From NAU Logging Sports cutting “cookies,” to the ROTC squad push-ups after each score, even prizes dropping from above, it’s a festive atmosphere for Lumberjacks of all ages.

At 7,000 feet, the Lawrence J. Walkup Skydome has become one of the toughest places to play in the Big Sky Conference. We’ll bring the up-tempo offense and smothering ‘Jack Defense’ and you bring the noise.

Our sights are set on the Big Sky Championship and with your support we can get there. See you in the Dome, ‘Jacks. And don’t be afraid to get loud!
