Martin D. Sommerness, professor of journalism, was invited to present “Toward Best Practices in Teaching the Blended Introduction to Mass Communication/Journalism Class” at CommCon 2015 on March 27 in Phoenix.
Tracye A. Moore, assistant clinical professor, was recognized as one of the top professors of Dental Hygiene by Medical Technology Schools. Tracye A. Moore, assistant clinical professor of dental hygiene, was featured as one of the 20 Top Professors of Dental Hygiene on the Medical Technology Schools blog. The list is comprised of outstanding professors in the field who are innovators in everything from their instructional methods to their scholarly research, and also leaders in the dental hygiene community. Moore is an active participant in many professional organizations, including the American Dental Hygienists Association and the New Era Dental Society. She is the current president of the National Dental Hygienist’s Association and advocates for minorities in the field of dental hygiene.
Wendy Wallace Bruun, director of First-Generation Programs and Initiatives, and T. Mark Montoya, lecturer of Ethnic Studies, presented their paper, “Faculty Learning Community for First-Generation College Student Experiences,” at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators 2015 Annual Conference in New Orleans.
Tobias Kreidl and Duane Booher, members of the Information Technology Services Student Computing and Network Team, were featured in a case study by the Nexenta Corporation, a leading purveyor of Software Defined Storage technology. The case study focuses on how the team was able to integrate this vendor’s storage technology and gain savings in disk storage space while increasing response time. This was done at the same cost that would have been required to add on conventional storage.
NAU’s Model United Nations team competed last week at the national Model United Nations conference in New York City. Representing Tonga, the team received the Distinguished Delegation award. Pictured from left are John Bower, Will Wolf, McKenzie McLoughlin, Josh Demakovsky, John Murphy, Matt Dotzler, faculty advisor Gretchen Gee, Caitlyn Ratliff and Liam Bewick.- Mary Greenberg, assistant clinical professor of nursing, and Carol Rutenberg of Telephone Triage Consulting Inc. received the Linda Strangio Editor’s Award from the Journal of Radiology Nursing at the annual business meeting of the Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nursing in Atlanta. They were honored for their article, “Telephone Nursing in Radiology: Managing the Risks,” which appeared in the June 2014 edition of the journal.
- Bill Carter, assistant professor of practice in the School of Communication, was a presenter at the 2015 RTÉ MojoCon conference in Dublin, Ireland. The international conference focuses on mobile journalism, mobile filmmaking and mobile photography. Watch his interview here.
- NAU student Shalene Yazzi was selected as an Honorable Mention in the Udall national scholarship competition. Yazzi received her bachelor’s degree in biology with an emphasis in botany from NAU and is currently working toward her second bachelor’s degree in public health at NAU. The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to students for leadership, public service and commitment to issues related to American Indian nations or to the environment. Yazzi plans to practice in the Navajo Nation after completing her master’s in physician assistant studies.
