Northern Arizona University has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the APS Foundation to strengthen its STEM Focus Schools for the Future program.
The program, launched in 2012 in partnership with NAU’s Center for Science Teaching and Learning, enhances teacher preparation in science, technology, engineering and math through increased professional development opportunities for K-8 teachers.
“We’re honored to receive continued funding from APS,” said Joelle Clark, professional development coordinator at the center. “Our collaboration reflects the type of pioneer effort and leadership it takes between business and education to address STEM education needs within Arizona.”
Currently, the program serves 36 lead teachers and their school administrators from 12 STEM-focused public schools across the state. With the additional funding, the center will be able to provide over 120 hours of professional development and technical assistance to support schools as they continue their journey in STEM learning.
The grant to NAU was one of nine grants totaling $1 million dollars that were awarded to nonprofits located throughout Arizona.
