More than 120 high school voice ensembles from Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada will participate in the 2007 NAU Jazz Madrigal Festival.
The School of Music will be hosting the annual festival on Friday and Saturday. This festival has been held for more than 25 years.
The vocal jazz choirs will perform at Ardrey Auditorium, Prochnow Auditorium and the Newman Center on campus.
“Students who attend the festival have an opportunity to work with the best and brightest choral music educators from around the country,” saidRyan Holder, festival coordinator and associate director of choral studies. “We have an opportunity to showcase our high-quality ensembles, and prospective students have the chance to see what NAU has to offer.”
Each group performs for 25 minutes and gets the chance to work with one of six music clinicians from around the country, Holder said.
The NAU Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform free concerts at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10 in Ardrey Auditorium.
A host concert will be 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Ardrey Auditorium featuring the Shrine of the Ages Choir, directed by Edith Copley, director of choral studies, and Cantus, a nine-member male vocal ensemble from Minneapolis.
