Northern Arizona University ranks fifth in the nation for graduating Native Americans with bachelor’s degrees, according to the latest issue of Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine.
In its June 1 edition, the magazine, formerly known as Black Issues in Higher Education, identified the top 100 universities that grant bachelor’s degrees to minorities. It also ranked NAU 68th in the nation for graduating Latinos with bachelor’s degrees.
“NAU continues to work to create and sustain a campus climate that is inclusive and academically challenging,” said David Bousquet, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs.
The magazine also reports the rankings of minorities earning degrees by disciplines, and NAU earned some prominent rankings, including:
- second in the nation for bachelor’s degrees in education for Native Americans
- fifth for bachelor’s degrees in business management and marketing related support services for Native Americans
- fifth for bachelor’s degrees in health professions and related clinical sciences for Native Americans
- sixth for bachelor’s degrees in engineering for Native Americans
- eighth for bachelor’s degrees in education for minorities
- ninth for bachelor’s degrees in education for Latinos
- 13th for bachelor’s degrees in social sciences and history for Native Americans
- 16th for bachelor’s degrees in biological and biomedical sciences for Native Americans
The rankings are based on the 2004-05 academic years, which is the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. View the complete report online.
