The Native American Convocation and Award Ceremony on May 11 was a cultural celebration recognizing the achievements and accomplishments of NAU’s Native American graduates, faculty and staff.
Native American Student Services presented the following awards:
- Gladys Onsae, a member of the Hopi tribe, received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and the Outstanding Native American Graduating Senior Award.
- Graylynn Whiterock, from the Navajo Nation, received a master’s in administration with an emphasis in health sciences and the Outstanding Native American Graduate Student Award.
- Vernon L. Davis, also from the Navajo Nation, is a graphic designer in NAU’s Printing Services and serves as the advisor to the student group Native Americans United, received the Outstanding Native American Staff Award.
- Karen Jarratt-Ziemski, a Mississippi Choctaw, a faculty instructor in Applied Indigenous Studies, received a doctorate degree in political science and the Outstanding Native American Faculty Award
