The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management recently ranked ninth in the world for its faculty publishing record in refereed hospitality and tourism journals.
“Our ninth ranking is impressive considering NAU’s publishing record was measured against 311 universities worldwide,” said Marilyn McDonald, director of public information in the school.
A recent issue of The Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Education classified the universities based on publishing output by their faculty members in refereed hospitality and tourism journals in 2002.
Included in the top 10 universities ranked were three from outside the United States. Of the six schools within the U.S., NAU—with only 17 HRM faculty members—ranked well against Cornell University with 65 faculty members, Pennsylvania State University with 35 faculty members, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with 59 faculty members.
“All other nine universities included in the top 10 rankings have graduate programs in hospitality, whereas NAU’s HRM is solely baccalaureate,” McDonald said.
The School of Hotel and Restaurant Management is accredited from the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration, an honor earned by less than 15 percent of the nation’s baccalaureate degree-granting programs in the field.
