Lizelda Durazo and Marla Tapia, undergraduate elementary education majors at NAU-Tucson, andJudi Moreillon, assistant clinical professor in the College of Education at NAU-Tucson, accepted the Best University Department Web Site award for their work on the Southwest Children’s Literature Web Site at the Arizona Technology in Education Alliance Conference on April 29 at Arizona State University’s West Campus The web site is a collaborative project between undergraduate and graduate education and library science students and Tucson-area students and their teachers and librarians.
The site includes book reviews, K-12 student work, lesson plans and more than 100 book reviews related to children’s and young adult literature of the Southwest.
Forty-three NAU-Tucson undergraduate pre-service K-8 classroom teachers have contributed to the site.
Richard Quartaroli, Cline Library special collections librarian, presented “Willie ‘Necktie’ Taylor: Leather and Rope, Berkeley to Grand Canyon” at the Grand Canyon River Guides annual Guides Training Seminar land session in Marble Canyon, Ariz.
A condensed version of this presentation on river personality Taylor, who died 50 years ago and is one of only two known Grand Canyon river runners buried in the Grand Canyon along the Colorado River, will appear in the next issue of Boatman’s Quarterly Review.
Quartaroli also was the river/canyon historian on the seminar’s river session.
