Coconino County provides running scholarships to five youth

The Center for High Altitude Training is hosting the Daniels High Altitude Running Camp in June and five youth will attend compliments of Coconino County.

The purpose of the camp is to provide youth with an intensive training camp experience in the sport of running.

The camp is open to boys and girls of all ability levels in grades 6, 7 and 8 for day camp, and to those in grades 9 through 12 for either day camp or overnight camp.

The camp will be held June 25 to July 1 on the NAU campus. Athletes will receive well-rounded workouts and will participate in a training curriculum under the guidance of the center’s renowned distance running coach and exercise physiologist, Jack Daniels.

Coconino County will provide scholarships to five youth in grades 9 through 12 to attend the overnight Running Camp, one from each of the county’s five districts.

“As the supervisor from District 1, I am very happy to help a young person attend this camp,” said Carl Taylor. “Aside from the obvious athletic and physical benefits, this activity provides fellowship, good example and positive reinforcement of the value of an active and disciplined life.”

Registration forms and scholarship applications are available online at www.hastc.nau.edu/frameset-events.html.
