  • MJ McMahon
    Executive Vice President MJ McMahon displays the Woman of the Year award she received from the Arizona Women in Higher Education.

    Executive Vice President MJ McMahon was named the Woman of the Year at the Arizona Women in Higher Education 2013 Conference today at the High Country Conference Center. NAU President John Haeger told conference-goers that McMahon is the “ultimate detail person” and a trustworthy problem-solver on campus. “When we have a problem, she is dispatched to deal with the issue,” he said.

  • Paul Keim, Regents’ Professor and director of the Center for Microbial Genetics and Genomics, spoke this week during the Third World Summit on Evolution at the University of San Francisco De Quito on the Galapagos Islands. Keim presented, “Highly Fit Pathogens: Where Do They Come From, How Do They Evolve and Do They Really Go Extinct?” Information on the conference is available here.
  • Allen Woodman, professor of English, recently published a short story, “What to Expect When You’re Not Expecting,” at Passages North, an online literary blog.
  • Diane Vosick, director of policy and partnerships at the Ecological Restoration Institute, and Yeon-Su Kim, forestry professor, appeared before the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee this week to discuss innovative approaches to solving the problem of wildfires. The testimony offered was based on recently released studies on the 2010 Schultz Fire and “The Efficacy of Hazardous Fuel Treatments: A Rapid Assessment of the Economic and Ecologic Consequences of Alternative Hazardous Fuel Treatments.”
  • Eric Dieterle, coordinator in the Office of Public Affairs, presented an essay, In Passing, at the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment Tenth Biennial Conference held in Lawrence, Kan., from May 28 to June 1.
