Using fabric, paint, fluorescent lights, cheesecloth and hair gel, 13 art students will use different ways to portray Southwest water issues in their upcoming exhibit, “Water in the Southwest: Site-specific Installation Art.”
The installations are a final project of the course taught by art professor Shawn Skabelund. The student artists are Sarah Allison, Kelsey Booth, Aileen Clark, Erica Damman, Brianna Fristoe,Holly Gardner, Craig Goodworth, Ty Miller, Jenny Nakao, Christyn Overstake, Leancy Rupert, Margaret Schreiber, and Robin Stephen, and their work will be exhibited in eight buildings across campus.
The class is funded by a $6,000 grant from the College of Arts and Letters and donations from the NAU Art Museum and local photographer and NAU graduate Michael Collier.
The student artists will discuss their works at their installation sites between 11a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. April 14. A collaborative class installation also will be on exhibit throughout May at the NAU Art Museum’s Pocket Gallery inside Old Main. An opening reception will take place at 7 p.m. May 3.
