The Arizona Board of Regents approved NAU’s request to implement the new bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degree programs in environmental studies at its meeting March 9-10 in Tucson.
The new environmental studies major “takes advantage of NAU’s assets in the environmental programs offered across campus and across the disciplines,” according to the program proposal. The B.A. and B.S. degrees in environmental studies go into effect in fall 2006.
NAU’s existing environmental sciences major is interdisciplinary in its focus on natural and social sciences, but the new environmental studies major will integrate humanistic disciplines and perspectives with natural and social scientific approaches. The newly approved major will be organized around focus areas or problems rather than individual disciplines.
